Uniform Bank – Update

Let’s talk Uniform Bank!

We’ve been giving a lot of thought as to how best to organise this and manage the costs etc. whilst hopefully helping as many families in our community as we can with what we know from personal experience can be a completely unaffordable cost, especially coming right at the end of the school summer holidays!

Ultimately we’ve decided  “Pay What You Can” is probably the best way to go – there will be no requirement or expectation for any payment, but if you’re in a position to make some contribution towards the cost of any uniform you taken then it would be greatly appreciated, and will help to cover the some of the cost as well as going towards funding our ongoing projects. Don’t worry, nobody (not even us) will know what you’ve paid, we will just have some money boxes available when the uniform bank is open (dates to be announced) for you to pop in anything that you can afford,

We’ve begun stockpiling uniform basics – trousers, skirts, pinafores, shirts, polo shirts which are generally suitable for most schools, new where possible but also good condition used, and we’re happy to accept donations of any of these items now – they’ll be stored safely until the uniform bank opens, although if an emergency crops up and a family needs uniform in the meantime, please get in touch and we will see what we can do to help.

Due to the cost of uniform items with school logos, mainly things like sweatshirts and blazers, as well as patterned skirts/pinafores we expect the majority of these will be good, used condition rather than brand new. Due to storage constraints and the sheer number of different school uniforms, we’re going to try and keep these items limited to schools within Newton itself –

  • Hope Academy
  • Newton-Le-Willows Primary School
  • St Mary’s Catholic (Infant & Junior) Primary Schools
  • St Peters Church of England Primary School
  • Wargrave Church of England Primary School
  • The District Church of England Primary School
  • Wargrave House School
  • Lyme Community Primary School

If we have lots of families asking for help with uniform for other schools, or find we are being offered donations of uniform for other schools outside of the immediate area then we will see what we can do to extend the scope to include these – at the moment everything is just a rough plan, subject to change. 🙂 And if we’ve missed any Newton schools off that list, please let us know!

If you have any new, or good condition used uniform items which are no longer needed, please consider donating them – you an drop them in at either Newton Deli or Dentons Deli where a member of the team will ensure that they’re packed up safely, labelled and stored for the uniform bank events. Similarly, if you spot any for sale at discount prices and can afford to spare the cost, we’d be eternally grateful if you’d consider picking them up for us (Aldi are great for this!). We’ve included a rough list below of the kinds of things that are needed –

  • Shirts/Blouses
  • Polo Shirts
  • Trousers
  • Skirts
  • Shorts
  • Pinafores
  • Summer Dresses
  • Sweatshirts
  • Blazers
  • Shoes
  • Tights/Socks/Underwear (new only please!)
  • PE Kits

We will be organising some fundraising events to help towards the cost of buying bulk quantities of the items most needed nearer to the time, so please watch this space if you’d like to get involved. 🙂 Our sponsors The Deli Group will also be donating further stock, and if any other local businesses feel able to support this initiative then we’d love to hear from you – naturally there’s plenty of publicity available off the back of any support you can give.

Ok, that’s about where we are up to with it all so far. More details to follow once we have dates in the diary for the events and fundraising activities organised. In the meantime, if you’re clearing out your kids wardrobes please consider donating anything which is still in good condition – your support may make all the difference to a family in need. Thank you 🙂 x
